2011: NORDEN in Top 20 in The Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index

Again this year, NORDEN’s score in the independent not-for-profit organisation Carbon Disclosure Project’s yearly assessment is among the 20 highest in the Nordic Region. Thus, NORDEN is placed in The 2011 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index, which is a key component of CDP’ annual report. The index highlights the Nordic listed companies, which have displayed the most professional approach to climate change disclosure practices.

Ranked 17 (in 2010: 18), NORDEN is the only shipping company in the Nordic Top 20, which counts companies from Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark.

Commenting on the 2011-ranking Ulla E. Nielsen, Director CSR, NORDEN, says:
“We are very pleased with the Top 20-ranking. Our position in the ranking of our reporting practice very well reflects our efforts to constantly optimise our fleet with the aim to reduce fuel consumption and thereby emissions. These efforts benefit the climate but also our bottom line. In other words – our initiatives to minimise the impact on climate change and our initiatives to reduce our costs go hand in hand.”

Paul Simpson, CEO, Carbon Disclosure Project, says:
“Corporations, investors and governments today are faced with a choice: To compete aggressively for finite resources, or to advance towards a low carbon economy that enables sustainable, profitable growth, whilst reducing reliance on increasingly scarce material. (…) Whilst we are waiting patiently for much needed global regulation, business much continue to forge ahead, innovate and seek out opportunities by doing more with less. The decision that perpetuates a legitimate, low carbon and high growth economy will bring considerable value to those that have the foresight to make them.”

2010: NORDEN in top-20 in the CDP Nordic 200

In 2010, NORDEN's score in the Carbon Disclosure Project’s yearly assessment was among the 20 highest in the Nordic region. Thus, NORDEN was placed in the Carbon Leadership Disclosure Index 2010, which is a key component of CDP’s annual Nordic 200 Report and highlights the Nordic stock listed companies which have displayed the most professional approach to climate change disclosure practices.

Ranked 18, NORDEN is the only shipping company in the Nordic top-20, which counts companies from Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark.

“The Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index recognises companies that demonstrate good internal data management practices for understanding greenhouse gas emissions, including energy use. Companies that make this index have also demonstrated clear consideration of how climate change is and will impact their business. As companies’ understanding of climate change issues grows, they are better placed to take positive action to manage and mitigate their risks,” says Paul Dickinson, CEO of the Carbon Disclosure Project.

Background

Since 2008, NORDEN has participated in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the most comprehensive global mapping of corporations’ efforts to reduce emissions of the greenhouse gas CO2.

The CDP is an independent non-profit organisation holding the largest database of primary corporate climate change information in the world. Thousands of companies and organisations across the world measure and disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategies through CDP in order to set reduction targets and make performance improvements. This data is gathered on behalf of 534 institutional investors with USD 64 trillion in assets under management as well as purchasing organisations and government bodies and is made available for integration into business and policy decision-making.

NORDEN is participating in the CDP to inform its stakeholders about its efforts in the environmental area. NORDEN believes the participation helps to differentiate the company and sharpen NORDEN's technical skills, attract good employees, save money on fuel and put NORDEN's values into practice.
