The Shipping Trainee Programme

The practical part

As Shipping Trainee in NORDEN you will gain thorough knowledge of our primary business areas - often within both the dry cargo and tanker segments where you will work with chartering and operations, respectively, in depth.  During the two years programme you also learn about our Technical department and our Bunker department (buying bunker oil for the vessels) and you will have one or two stays with a Port Captain or on board vessels sailing on various destinations.

The theoretical part

Along with the practical assignments you take the first part (second part if you have already graduated BSc in Economics and Business Administration or similar) of a graduate diploma in Business Administration at the Copenhagen Business School, CBS., where you will learn more about e.g. statistics, IT, economics and business finance. At our head office in Hellerup, you will follow specially designed theoretical modules with other Shipping Trainees from NORDEN's offices in  Hellerup and abroad. Finally, you will follow courses in Maritime Law and English also at the office in Hellerup.

How to qualify

To qualify for the trainee programme you are to have  – as a minimum – passed highschool (gymnasium) or business school (Højere Handelseksamen) with a minimum grade point average equal to 7.0 on the 7-point grading scale. You also need Mathematics at B-level both the written and oral part as well as good English skills. Alternatively, you hold a BA degree and wish to build on it by adding a practical training programme.

Regardless of your educational background, it is an advantage if you have experience in doing things on your own, either through work experience, military service or living abroad. Your personal qualifications and the way you see things are just as important - you should be open, curious and persevering and able to recognise yourself in our core values: flexibility, reliability, empathy and ambition.

Please note - much of the two years programme will be in Danish.
