The Shipping Trainee Programme

The practical part
As trainee in NORDEN you spend six to twelve months in each of our two primary departments: Tankers and Dry Cargo. During the two years programme you also spend four weeks in the Technical department and four weeks in the Bunker department (buying bunker oil for the vessels) and you will have one or two stays with a Port Captain or on board vessels sailing on various destinations. In the departments, then you will typically get a chance to work in operations, in chartering and in control. See more on selected job assignments
The theoretical part
Along with the practical assignments you take the first part of a graduate diploma in Business Administration at the Copenhagen Business School, CBS., where you will learn more about e.g. statistics, IT, economics and business finance. You will follow a specially designed shipping course in Esbjerg (five weeks in total during the two years), as well as courses in maritime law and English at the office in Copenhagen.
We work closely together with a series of other large shipping companies on the theoretical part of the programme. Due to this, you will become part of a network with a lot of other trainees in the shipping industry.
How to qualify
To qualify for the trainee programme you are to – as a minimum – have passed highschool (gymnasium) or business school (Højere Handelseksamen) with a minimum grade point equal to 8.5 on the 13-scale.
