CaptainKim Aarup, Captain with NORDEN Durban and back Captain Kim Aarup and his 18 man crew onboard the product tanker m.t. NORD PRINCESS passed no less than 55 degrees of latitude on the 3,900 nautical mile long journey along Africa from the United Arab Emirates to Durban in South Africa with a cargo of gas oil. During the voyage, they met hailstones the size of golf balls, whales in high spirit, and suffered from severe heat. The following is a report on life at sea and the duties onboard. Kim Aarup is 47 years old. He graduated from the Copenhagen Navigation School in 1980-1982 and served as third officer, second officer, chief officer and master (captain) for a total period of 20 years, until in February 2003 he joined NORDEN; first as chief officer, and in August 2005 he was appointed master. In May 2006 he took over m.t. NORD PRINCESS and boarded when the vessel passed Mina Saqr in the United Arab Emirates on her voyage to Durban in South Africa with a cargo of gas oil. Port CaptainMorten Kjell Larsen, Port Captain Captain on Shore When NORDEN’s vessels call at Koh Si Chang Anchorage in Thailand, Taipei in Taiwan or Banjarmassin in Indonesia, Captain Morten Kjell Larsen will often be there to meet them. “Employing vessels chartered by NORDEN and with no Danish crew on board, it is often a very good idea to be present in person at the port as a representative for the charterer and an ambassador for the customer. This can give the vessel crew and port staff an exact picture of what we expect and when. They are presented with a face of the assignment giver, a person with whom they can negotiate directly or to whom they have to explain themselves should any problems arise” . Read the full story. |
Site ManagerNiels Jørgen Iversen, Retired Site Manager Nine years at Asian shipyards It began by coincidence, but ended up as a career path. Having been posted at shipyards in Korea, Japan and China for more than nine years, Niels Jørgen Iversen has been one of NORDEN’s most well-known faces in Asia - and one of the employees launching the most of NORDEN’s vessels. But a new chapter is about to start for him, back in Denmark. At the beginning of the new year, Niels Jørgen Iversen will hand in his discharge book and retire.
